BIO
Coli Sylla is a screenwriter, director, and documentary storyteller whose African heritage and lived experiences fuel a bold, character-driven approach to prestige procedural, serialized drama, and culturally grounded nonfiction. A 2024 RespectAbility Entertainment Lab Fellow, he was also named one of ISA’s Top 25 Screenwriters to Watch in 2024 after winning the Grand Prize in the 2022 Creative Screenwriting TV Pilot Competition.
Sylla’s work is defined by emotionally charged, socially conscious storytelling that interrogates mental health, identity, justice, and community. His legal drama Porter exemplifies his ability to merge intimate character study with systemic critique, while his mental health narrative F31.9 explores the psychological cost of stigma and public perception.
He is also the creator and host of the documentary series Where I’m From, a cinematic exploration of Philadelphia neighborhoods told through the voices of the people who grew up there. The debut episode has garnered over 20,000 views, signaling early audience traction for the series’ grounded, culturally authentic approach. The project captures culture, resilience, memory, and lived experience—documenting communities not as headlines or transactions, but as layered, human ecosystems shaped by history and pride.
Often drawing on a complex relationship he has forged with law enforcement and institutional power, Sylla gravitates toward crime, psychological, and legal narratives that blur the line between personal experience and systemic structures. Across both scripted and documentary work, he builds emotionally immersive worlds that are grounded, unflinching, and deeply human.
Fearless in both subject matter and craft, Sylla creates stories that confront stigma, elevate overlooked voices, and examine the forces that shape who we become.

My Mission
My mission is to ignite conversations that have long been silenced. As a screenwriter, I wield my craft to delve into the unspoken, to challenge the taboos that shroud stigmatized disabilities and the labyrinth of human relationships. My aspiration is to create characters who are not just real, but who bleed, breathe, and demand to be seen—characters that confront, resonate, and leave an indelible mark on the soul.
MY VISION
All audiences should have access to content that is moving, engaging, and powerful enough to inspire change.
